Coffee

Our sourcing strategy for coffee is distinct in that we source coffee directly from the farmers themselves. ‘Amana’ is a Swahili word meaning Faithfulness and Trustworthy and these words run right through the core of our principal.  This is an amazing initiative raising the standard of living for so many farmers around the world. At Amana our principals believe in this initiative and have taken it a step further to go, when possible, and meet these farmers directly in their homes. By taking this approach they have first pick of the harvest each year providing more consistency and higher quality on our green beans, this also gives them the opportunity to pay the farmers their asking so it’s a win- win for all.

It may vary with each region but on average the coffee that we source are 100% Arabica, Graded AA, screening is 15+, and cupping score is 84+. The coffee’s we’ll be focusing on this year which are grown between 1’650m - 1’900m above sea level. These small countries are making a big impact in the specialty coffee world, and with the density from these altitudes we are getting some wonderful fruity notes. Our Burundi has notes of red berries and stone fruit with a lingering tart finish. Our Rwanda beans have a bright upfront sweetness with notes of dried apricot and mango.

The process of these coffees is washed but there are natural coffees still available

The supplies come from Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, and Ethiopia. These countries have some of the best conditions for growing coffee within the coffee belt and the farmers have been growing specialty coffee for over 10 years.
